yeah check with transport people, my brother asked about a jeep he has that has no number on it what so ever. they said they can issue it a new number and it would all be good
seems as you still have a body number i cant see it being too much of an issue, but best to check with the people that will actually have a say in the matter

You would be best checking with your local police/transport authority. Internet experts aren't always right!
My understanding is that as long as you can demonstrate the history & legitimacy of the vehicle (eg. id last time it was rego'd and show history of purchases & proof of ownership) then yes you can. Personally though I'd just completely avoid it. It's one more hassle you don't need and I know I wouldn't spend good money on a finished car if it wasn't 100% ridgy didge so you might find it hard to sell if you're ever over it.

cause all i will have if i get this new ute will be the body number in the enginebay printed next to where the tag would be

all they did was look it up on the computer, and all was ok. that was it.

can a ute shell be rego'd eventually without build plates. . i kno u dont need compliance plates as once engineered it will have a new pate stateing new motor etc but the plate with te vin etc? can it be done?
