if you relocate the solenoids, ditch the dissy and use a cam angle sensor from an sr20ve 20v you can get away with just a firewall massage.

you can get a bellhousing adapter(cnc) from futofab in the states for fwd sr to Lseries bellhousing (ei- stumpy)good price, good fit, fast shipping and someone has already done all the hard work(measurements etc..)comes with good ledgible instructions and mounting hardware.

Yep, Stock S13 Sr. The old motor was 126bhp ATW.... Racetechs way of doing the conversion makes sense in his situation, ie, jap imports are harder to come by. In Australia it really is easy to get DE/DET rwd blocks.. I have a spare already. Then most things bolt up. Oh, Hats off the racetech, he is doing a great job. Im keen to hear how his rear end (BMW?) goes?

scott77, I'm busy using a SR20VE and a S14 gearbox.
Motor is mounted in a 1200. From my Build Thread: One of the biggest challenges right from the beginning of this motor and gearbox combination was the alignment of the bell housing bolts, if you take the standard motor and gearbox, only 4 bolts on the right hand side is in alignment, this meant I had to make a adaptor plate, something I was not looking forward to. Rezlo advised me to use the RWD upper oil pan from the S14 SR20DET motor. After sourcing one it quickly became apparent that this is the way to go as know 8 bolts was in alignment, 4 on the right and 4 at the bottom, luckily the 4 most important bolts on the bottom was covered. Anybody else considering a conversion like this, here is a picture of the SR20DET RWD flywheel and the SR20VE Automatic flex plate. The ring gears is exactly the same. The reason way something like this was of interest to me was the fact that I’m planning on using the original FWD started mounting with the RWD gearbox. Main reason for this is that I can keep my block original and use the FWD starter that I got with the motor. Only problem with this is the fact that you need a expert to remove some material from the outside of the flywheel to get the FWD starter to fit over it, also a smaller pressure plate need to be used with the FWD flywheel.

I have just done a sr20ve head to a rwd DE block. Same head as a SR16, 16 is just shaved for higher Comp.
You have to either run remote oil lines to the VVL solenoids and remove dizzy or cut the firewall. Blocking a few oil galleries, new Inlet manifold..... There are plates you can get from mazworx.com in the states to remote mount the solenoids. The sound that comes from open quads and the exshaust when the cams switch makes it all worth it!! If you go ahead I can give you more detailed info.

just wondering if anyone has done the conversion from sr16 fwd to rwd... they look like a good engine but who has thought about it?
