yeah i looked at most nissan, funny thing pulsars use a switch so similar to the a12, you could almost use one from an a12 all the way up to 2005 hahaha.

actually peugeut and suzuki had the closest but the pins and housing are longer.

if there was a way to cut the reconnect brass, then the pug one is a winner! it is only 10-15mm deep past the thread (if you take the hideous and useless plastic housing off it.

a series one, there is sfa under that cap

Getting back to your origional question Mik, the reverse is a 'normally closed' switch, as you only want power through the switch when the reverse gear is selected. The top gear switched is 'normally open', opposite to normal switches because it activates the vacum solonoid that cuts vacum advance to the distributor. It wants to be powered all the time so that you get your vac adv except for when you select top gear. It is because it is a 'fail safe' system that ensures that if the switch fails and power is cut, you lose the vac advance all the time, thus ensuring that the pollution requirements are met. Stupid but a nessicary requirement at the time. If you are looking for a shallower switch, they should be the same thread pitch across the nissan range. Perhaps a later model box has a smaller switch.

if only you could use a plastic plunger, would be so easy, its hard to find a meatl tiped one for easy replacement.

having the correct switch isnt the major issue- its modding it to fit the tunnel on the car.

working out options to take 20- 30 mm out of the body of it. doesnt seem to be much inside them at all. got a part number for the relay?
If ones modded, why mod another if it works, easier to just wire the relay.

You can use a $2 nissan relay to reverse the operation, get them at the wreckers. Of course you need to to power the relay so there's an extra wire.

Or just buy the correct switch, about $10 at rockauto

I checked my 63A#2. It has three switches. They all switch on-off depending on gear selected. One is for Reverse (bullet connectors); One is Neutral (flat connectors); One activates in both 4th and 5th (flat connectors). I figure that I'd connect the latter to the Fasten Seat Belt light on the dash and change the wording to HYPERDRIVE.

cut open the overdrive switch to see what was inside- im guessing the rev switch one is the same- so was wondering why one enages the lights in rev and one when its not in rev when its just creating a curcuit. theres no electrics in it at all.

A resistor wont help. You would need a NOT gate on the output which infact is a small circuit (not a component and would then need its own power/ground supplies).

Probally easier to just get the correct switch?
