hmm ok Kool thanks for that at least i haven't done anything that i wont be able to drive it somewhere... i spent a bit of time trying to figure out what was the noise i checked the wheels and that last weekend when i had it all jacked up didn't appear to be any move meant but i guess that doesn't necessarily mean they are in the clear.... one thing i forgot to mention the whine calmed down a little with fresh oil in it. but the clunky noise has stayed an i figure thats the bigger problem.

If it is the uni joints on the prop-shaft well they arent realy home servicable. You can pull them apart by removing the circlips , but you really need to goto a shop to have them replaced.
You could push some grease in and see if that helps.

By what you have said, i would have thought the diff centre as well.
Perhaps a wheel bearing?

#1 universal joint/ drive shaft HELP!
theflyingbra Posted on: 2011/4/2 3:33
Hey guys, so been having this issue for a month where if i just let the car roll it makes a winning sound and if something lines up i get loud and quick sounding Clunks, initially i thought Diff for all of the noise but then realized it could be the uni-joint, this morning i took off the drive haft to have a look around the uni joints dont look like i can get them out any ideas?.....

the Uni joints actually look and feel ok except the rear one with a slight feeling of sticking. How ever last night the noise was worse when rolling or backing of the accelerator and i thought it sounded like it was coming from behind the gearbox. plz any thoughts/tips would be really great :D

its a 1973 sedan 1200

thanks in advance.
