coilovers are a good option to have they're handy to b able to adjust height but not worth the hassle if its not for specifec purpose but the easiest wat to run coils is to run the double eyelets as casey has posted up but either way to do this u would have to strip the whole thing to put it on a rotisserie to be able to weld everything propperly and just for a street car u can setup leaves quite well and keep good handling

Stick with leaf springs unless you know what your are doing with converting to a 3/4/5 link system.
It's not so much a matter of good quality workmanship surrounding the welding or choosing the thickness/type of material that will make an engineer worth his salt cringe, it will be the quality of the design and it's impact on the overall vehicle dynamics that should be first assessed, get that wrong and you can make the car handle very poorly even worse then your original setup, which by the way can be made to handle almost as well a 3/4/5 link system. Example is Doug Moss 120y he races in NSW IPRA.

iv always thought of doing something funky but basic. like using a set of speedway coilovers as they have similar eyelets either end and keeping the single long leaf and U bolts to locate your diff aswell as trac bars. to save on the effort of making a 4 link. http://www.proshocks.com/streetrod/index.html

hahaha thanks Wardy yes 'caltrops' ill be looking into 2 sets soonish and someplace to reset my leafs to barely legal height

In my opinion it's not really the cost that's the problem unless you get someone else to do it.
You can design the system to utilise components from other cars to keep a lid on the costs. A lot of the time you can just modify these parts with rose joints for example to make them adjustable for very minimal cost.
The mounts on the diff can be fabricated from 3-4mm plate. You can pick up a secondhand set of S13 adjustable coil overs for $500 or less.
For the purposes of engineering you may need to get some welds or fabricated parts inspected/tested though.
If you're doing it predominantly yourself I reckon you could get away under $1000 for the entire setup.

i believe the word you are looking for is caltracs ryan ... ill be running reset leaf springs and caltracs in my car, will also have remade spring hangers and extra bracing.. should be good to shoot me into the 9's. then ill be going more serious... but for the street i really wouldnt bother with coils as benefits arnt really worth the cost envolved

just go reset leafs with caltrops (traction rods) however its spelt, unless you have lots of cash or metal fab experience.

coils would be better, as they dont try to compine the spring and diff locating devices in one. so you can run softer springs without having to worry about axle tramp
you can also get more adjustability in a coil setup than in leaves
its easier to set the ride height with coils than it is with leaves

but it is a whole heap of work to properly set up a coil rear end. and to most people isnt worth the effort

Hi everyone putting a borgie diff in my ute soon just wondering which is best coilovers or leaf springs car will be mostly street driven but would like to 1/4 mile it every so often
