I have heard the GU nissan patrol are a great tow vehicle, obviously very similar to the landcruiser but for an extreme amount less price wise. shop around for one of those, petrol or deisel, they are both great to ride in and tow well. My opinion.

Vitos have plastic gearbox's dont they?
Have done plenty of Vic-Adel and Vic-syd trips in my 03 Hiace Van towing big loads and it loved it, only 2.4L petrol but wast too bad on fuel + good for sleeping. Getting a D40 Navara next, best ute money can buy.

Cheers cemax, is yours a 4x2? I drove a mates brand new bt50 back in '08 and was very impressed with the torque mainly!
The van wouldnt be too bad I guess, only thing that puts me off is that I worked on them for 7 years lol, not sure what yours is like sssute but they were shockingly unreliable and you have to sell off a kidney to pay for parts!

I have an 07 Ranger Wardy, great car and would serve your purpose to a tea - have not towed with mine yet so cannot comment. Plenty of poke and they go for a great price. Will serve as my towing vehicle once my coupe project is complete.
ssute also speaks the truth about the Merc Vito. I had one as a company car for a few years 6spd turbo diesel. Flogged it hard, towed with it, so much power - fantastic van. Also as mentioned it's cheap accomodation @ powercruise's :P

The best tow car i have had is my current Merc. Vito 115 van, it has 5 seats for the family, and a huge cargo area. 2.2l Turbo diesel. I get between 9 to 10L per hundred kms when towing my ute, five people and a heap of speares.
When i go away racing by myself, i take the back seat out and sleep in it.

ah yes i hadnt thought of that, it will be towing my car around once a month, maybe more. so its important its reliable in doing so.. My grandfather bought a D40 new, tows his 24ft caravan everywhere. stuffed the clutch. ended up shopping around and found a direct replacement clutch and flywheel combo (single mass) for around $800!
Reminds me of back in teh day when SS commos used to crap clutches all the time, they had a dualmass on them also

Just don't buy a manual with a dual mass flywheel if your going to tow... or even drive it
Navara D40 BT50 Patrol 3.0 TD Anything with a dualmass will hit you up for $2k+ for clutch repairs within 50k km's You can view topic.
