the ridge on the ring faces up i think thats how i installed them when i did the rebuild i have a instruction paper i think for hasting rings if you need it!

ok, top ring will have inside bevel edge on inside of ring & faces up(or dot on ring facing up) 2rd ring with outer scraper edge faces down( or dot on ring faces up. if dots are casted in rings they allways face up. hope this helps cheers
don't forget to check ring gap

Maybe that's why they were so inexpensive -- no instructions.

Was looking at the Repco rings for A14 that I bought for $10 shipping included on eBay. Is the stepped ring the compression (top) ring, and go on the facting up? I think the other ring has a taper to it also.
