For $4 AUD I bought four of those bulbs off the first link supafatto. Thanks for your help too. Decided that I don't want to hurt my tacho in case I want to re-sell it later. Also I don't want to mess around melting bulbs, so the ones I already bought I'm gonna try to sell elsewhere or give away.

Just cut top of plastic off and heat slow with a jet flame to make your cut turn clear!

Cheers. I'll use my soldering iron to do the same.

I think from memory I used a soldering iron to melt a hole in it. Same result in the end but with different coloured LED's you would want the coloured filter removed anyway.

Did you do that on yours Levey? I would have to take apart the whole tacho?

Remove the green coloured dome from the tacho then all is good.
These LED's should not produce enough heat to be a fire hazard.

Has anyone else run into this problem before? What was the solution? Cheers.

Cheers Lamb. Can't tell if they are plastic or glass, but without the bulb fully enclosed won't that be a fire hazard?

you could file down the bulb a bit, it's just plastic (acrylic?) You can go almost all the way down to the two bits of metal that hold up the tiny piece of silicone that is the actual LED element.
