Your 1200 looks Great..

Listen Up Guys, I'm a old "Fossil" and a benefit of age is having the honor of driving these cars when New.

I'm not gonna list all of them, like the elderly-drooling Old Man that I am, however I will say these few words.

NEVER has anyone designed and manufactured a more well-built, durable, powerful, economical and vibration free vehicle.

I have a 1971 BRE 510 with a 1800 engine and magnesium wheels , sure it'll smoke the tires in 3 gears, pull .89g's on a skid-pad, but the Jag style rear end is overkill and heavy for such a car.

I find the live axle in the 1200 and the "total-package" to be more suited for aggressive driving.

Earlier today I was attempting to count the 1200's I've owned, I cannot recall but it's about 5-7, maybe more.
One sad example of a 72 1200 still lives with me.
Several 510's [still have one "71 BRE]
one 280Z
and my "Project" 260Z that has been "resting" in my climate controlled basement for over 25 years
[I know, forgive me, for I have sinned]

Mat and my self were emailing each other back and forward getting some history on the car and making sure that everything is still there like it was 5 years ago so I feal very lucky to have found a great example of a car like this one.

From now on the car is just gonna get better and better, I already have lots of plans for it, New wheels just came in today 15x8 so tomorrow ill be getting some new Falken tires Ill be rolling and pulling my fenders.

my bullet mirrors, sunny grill badge and sunny badges should be here this week so I cant wait, soon new upholstered interiors and a clean paint job.

I seem to recall Mats car had around 100HP, Yellow_Feva you have probaly snagged the nicest street 1200 in the country or at least one of the nicest.......I think the only other 1200 to rival it is Dave's Ute.

What's your compression first.

Yours is a 1400cc engine, I don't think they ever made it to the states, however several guys would put B-210 engines in 1200's

The formula I used on my fastest 1200 went something like this.

Stock 72 Pistons compared to 71 and earlier are about "Flat-Top"

A 71 or earlier Head had small cc heads and "Heart-Shaped" combustion chambers
[GM thinks the Vortec "swirl"is new, ha!]

A minimal head shave, about .008" or so.
.040" shims under the valves
a 4-Angle Valve Job

Result, 198# Compression using 71 head w/72 pistons.

Used the primary jets from a 1600 or 1800, I forget the #s
Ditto on the secondary's.

Cut the snorkel tube off to about 3" long.

Twisted the timing to somewhere near 25+ degrees, waaaay off scale.

End result, a little car that would roar like a Quadrajet on a 327 w/10-1
It would JUMP like a Camaro with a low-ratio gear.

1/4 mile times unknown, prolly low 15's or high 14's
On 93 Octane fuel.

It would eat most any stock v-8 sedan, till the 101mph top speed.

Gas mileage, 48mpg, highway speeds, no hypermileing tricks.
Worst mileage when whupping azz, 14mpg.

More than once I found myself sitting on the road side listening to the wind-up and POP of Blue Strobe Lights :D

I have ONE 1200 left, it's old and sickly, but it's still mine, so far.
[I had 2 cars stolen this year, well in 2011]

I cannot count the 1200's I've owned, as a wrench at a Datsun dealer, often a blown head gasket, bent fender, bad clutch made the owner say "It's worn out"

Then buy a crappy B-210, how sad.
