I did use an air compressor with the 90 degree attachment but I did my second one with a very sharp screwdriver and carefully tapped it with a hammer. The secret is to sharpen the head of the flat screw driver so its sharp with an angle grinder and then you tap carefully parallel to the tunnel surface and use
some good pliers to you peel away the steel or flap it from side to side till you it comes off, you might have to cut some sections of it with a grinder to make it easier to stick the screwdriver into it and then use the pliers. Then just use a cutting disc with small grinder to nip at it if you have to but otherwise the sharp driver head is enough to cut the mount off and when you remove the whole lot just use a grinder to smooth it. I did the same to other parts of the 1000 that where spot welded and have become quite good at it that it impresses me immensely :)

I started to remove some of the sound proofing around the mounts.
You can see the spots if you look carefully. You then drillout from that side. It willl leave drill holes that need filling though.

I found that using a chisel just ends up tearing the steel round the spots, and makes a right mess. Im trying to make a slittle mess as possible.
D, how did you get a drill into the tunnell to drill out the spots? Getting in a wire brush, yep no worries, but ou cant get a drill in there. Did you use some fancy 90degree adaptor for your drill?

I did them from underneath after wire grinding away the crap.
A hoist helped heaps of course but some ramps and a wheeled crawler could also be alright but use a face shield for sure.

Gents
I am needing to remove the gearbox mounts in the tunnell of the 1969 thou to fit the toyota T50 gearbox. What methods have youguys used to remove the mounts (which are spotwelded) with minimal damage. 1 - remove sound deadener from inside of car, and locate the spots. Then drill them out. 2 - grind off the mount from underneath. - very slow and crampt. any other methods ? You can view topic.
