My two cents, I've had a set of extractors sent down from NSW, wrapped in bubble wrap with no problems.
Being Depot to Depot it was super cheap.
Now that I've heard all of this, its begging to make me a little worried about the weber, manifold and linkages I've got on the way from Sydney at the moment. (with no insurance :S)
Lets hope it gets here no worries....

Yeah well I'm thinking I may have to go into the hunters depot and have a chat to them

Always found transdirect.com.au very reliable AND they have free insurance but they will not ship anything that has previously been filled with oil

Or box everything and pay a little more for freight, hell the extra weight won't cost a bees (or my) pecker

The problem with that is no other company, including Australia post can do it that cheap. They are seriously cheap. It opens up sales that we would ordinarily miss out on due to high transport costs. And they are only going to get higher. Perhaps the lesson to take from this is to get insurance so you have a fall back plan if it all goes wrong.

Well it seems that more and more people are having trouble with e-go i reckon we all should give our business somewhere else.

from the shape of that paracel - I think you should unwrap it immediately, I reckon with a shape like that it won't actually be the bumper inside, but you may have scored a top of the line hunting bow :)

In all seriousness - pursue claims relentlessly, because whoever is in charge of handling any claims will typically have instructions to give you the runaround in the hope you'll just get too frustrated and cut your losses. If you keep harassing them (in a polite way, so they can't have any claim that it is actually harassment) then the headaches you cause them might just be worse for them than the headache of re-imbursing you for the damage (or at the very least the shipping charges).

To be fair - it's very easy to damage goods - even very well packed goods - during transit. You've got multiple forklift on and offs and hand loading, each time they could accidentally wedge the bumper if it fell down from where it was tucked away. Then you have things like kamikaze drivers in small cars (not datto owners mind you, i mean modern small cars) who cut in front of trucks with inches to spare, then slam brakes on. The truck driver has no option but to brake as hard as traction will permit. This can shunt the load forward, with one item crushing another (even if it is strapped, it can still come apart - esp if the pallet had multiple boxes or crates on it).

don't get me wrong, it's not going to happen to every item sent, but law of averages, it'll happen with any courier/transport company sooner or later, if you do enough parcels with them. They 'could' avoid it, but it'd take more re-inforcements of tray/trailer/van interiors and different stacking of goods. It'd weigh the truck down more with the weight of the re-inforcements, and worse still, the new packaging system would only fit about half as much freight. Then their costs (and ours) would easily double, and it's no longer viable
