Actually do you guys know what sports steering wheel boss kits fit the 520 / 521 ? I wanna get one of those otomoto nardi style wheels cause theyre cool and cheap but I've never seen a boss kit for a 520 on ebay.. but I've got a hunch that maybe the 240Z or something is the same .. anyone know?

I think only North America got the 240SX. There's nothing particularly special about the 240SX transmission.

Any KA or Z transmission will fit into the 521. They just come out in different shifter positions. And you'll need a custom driveshaft unless you get one the same length as your existing driveshaft.

I recommend getting one the right length and correct shifter position to start with (without regard for which car it came from). Then you won't have to cut holes for the shifter, nor get a custom tailshaft, which is what most guys do.

there was definitely a 520 wagon and a panel van (which is the same as the wagon just with sheeted in sides where the windows would usually be) same for the 521.. so the navara box won't be too long for the 520 will it tir31? as I said I am planning to get the engine and gearbox from the D22 navara as thats pretty much the only thing they came out it in Australia, we didn't have the 240sx.. The only S13's we had were grey imports from japan with the SR20s as mr Nissan intended ;) I know also some of the later terrano's were supposed to have the KA24DE , but I've only ever seen them with Vg30s or TD27s.. H190 or no H190 , It's getting a hilux sooner or later as I know someone who's got an RX2 with a hilux which he fitted with a trutrac and after 2 years of skids and abuse it's still tight as anything. So that's what's going in it ;)

520 wagon? thought they were utes? 510 wagon? the s13 gear boxes are longer than the normal bluebird,r31 onward skyline, navara type and will move your shifter way back considering the standard 1600 box like the r30 stumpy 5spd is shorter than bluebird, skyline etc.

locally ka24e rwd came in navara d21 and d22 and ka24de in later d22 so those boxes will work as well as z series boxes like z22 found in later 720 utes and z20/24 found in d21 navaras.

is your diff a h190?

jon.

cool, that would make things so much easier if this is true! length won;t be a huge problem as I'm doing a conversion anyway and the stronger the better. I'm probably putting a hilux in there eventually. I want a 4 x 114.3 stud pattern so If something comes up with that I might go with it.

yeah if you find the navara gearbox you should probably just stick with it. think the gearbox ratios are all pretty similar for the 71c's. they just change diff ratios to suit the car

but yeah the nav box is a little longer than a stumpy box and just as strong as the silvia boxes

KA and Z pattern are the same. So you could use a Z18 transmission.

Have you read our KA article? You don't have to use a 240SX gearbox, they are not a great choice for a swap as they are the looongest nissan transmission. A truck transmission is closer to the the length of the 520 transmission.

you're right, from 1999 they had the KA24DE in them... so I know where to look now at least, but were the gearboxes the same as the 240SX .. I'm suspecting no as the ratios would be different for the kind of work they would be expected to do. But if anyone else has any more ideas, I'm all ears..
