And I have checked the guidelines for NSW and for N/A engines the max cc is weight x3 and for turbo/supercharged engines the max cc is x2.5. so i have been looking at a Ca18DET which is 1809cc which is 9cc over the max for the datsun 1200. But i am going to give a few engineers a ring and find out what has to be done for them to approve this engine.

There is a national guidelines for modifiying of vehicles, and thats where the problem is. It is a guideline not a rule, and in that guidline the vehicle mass is mentioned. That is where a GOOD engineer can go outside the guidelines and supply the appropriate evidance to proove the vehicle meets and outperforms the required regulations.

Isn't it original weight x 3 (in cc's) for N/A and x 2.67 (cant remember exactly) for forced ? thats the new national VSB's they are trying to bring out across the board in every state. at least I know it's like that in WA. are the 1200 utes classified as commercial vehicles? The beauty of things like my 520 as it has a full chassis, I can run up to an LS6 smallblock v8 ;)

It can be done, most engineers will say it can't, that is because they dont know or CBF. Me enginee in Adelaide spoke to the head of the NSW department, and was given a verbal ok, if a full evidence package including testing was done. From what I have heard about the prosses in NSW, most engineers dont even Track test or do the Australian approved sample tests EG lane change, brake fade etc.

I looked into this, as I was going to do it for my SR20DET ute for a potential customer. Sold it without having to.

Short answer is NO, however if your serious and are prepared to spend the dollars, download the list of registered engineers from the rta website and give some of them a call.

Hi all. I'm new to this forum an i have been looking at a lot of threads and i cant seem to find any info on this question. so my question is:

Can you get an Sr20DET engineered in a 1200 ute in NSW? And if you can is there much work involved in getting it engineered?

If anyone has any advice whether to get this engine or another engine, your input would be greatly appreciated.
