Crap! I don't remember what I did! It was so long ago.
I think I pulled the engine and pulled the oil pan and wiped up as much as I could inside the block. Then I rotated it and pulled the cam and lifters out. This all happened to my current A12. According to my records, this was about 140,000 miles ago. :)

yeah, that's exactly it. I think it was wiped when I started playing with the adjustment the first go round.
My plan is to just pull the pan, front cover, the cam & lifters and loosed the rocker shaft to pull the pushrods, I dont want to pull the crank, pistons, bearings, head, etc... dont really see a need for it, anyone see any problems with this approach? The machinist said it was best to get it out now as it hasn't done any damage yet, I took the oil filter to him after cutting it open & no shiny copper or bearing material in the oil or filter. Anyone done it this way?

its almost like its loosening up after adjusting So was the clearance bigger that what you'd set it? I had that happen to me. Set all the clearances dead nuts, drive around for a day or two, rechecked and two of the valves clearance had increased .010". Found I had wiped two lobes off the cam.

well I dont know for sure yet but its the only logical conclusion I can come to and the machinist I discussed it with who did the work on my Plymouth 383 agreed thats the most likely cause. One of these days I'll yard it out & tear it down, let you know how it turns out.

SO it was a worn cam. I'd heard that can be the cause but with reference to a different engine. Thanks for posting the outcome!

I checked the pushrod & its fine, I believe I've wiped a cam lobe as it seems to return upon further adjustment. So no more running it, time to pull it, spin it over & yank the cam & lifters.
Pisses me off as I just got the rings to seat & was feeling pretty smug about that & not having to pull it to re-ring it again. At least this can be done with leaving the crank internals untouched. WAAHHH, AARG BOO HOO ![]()

how wide you adjust your clearance?
try 0.30mm ex, 0.25mm in HOT

Yes A15 pushrods are longer.
** 141.5 mm: A10 ** 152 mm: short-deck engines (A12, A12A, and 1980 A13) ** ~167 mm: tall-deck engines (A14, A15, and 1974 A13)

I wondered about a bent pushrod, thats easy enough to check. now to just scrounge up a replacement if needed, I think I packed em all away, boo hoo.
are A15 pushrods different length that A12 or 14?

More likely that you have a bent pushrod
