Spose i could have just said i knew nothing to start with - or just not said anything at all! Im hopping in the shower and going to the pub. Cheers! Linc.

Thanks ang94541, I'll crawl around under a car one of these days to find those vents and returns. That is what I had planned to do eventually. I just thought someone might be able to say "sure, hook it up to that line. Trust me." At which point I would have crawled under the car anyway. I guess I'm just wasting everyone's time. Sorry.
As for you mely, are you sure the "surge tank" you are seeing isn't a vapor catch tank or charcoal cannister of some sort? And sorry for usurping your post. Will somone who knows Utes help him please? Sorry again. Tim

Looking at this parts list for US and Canadian 1200's. The vapor return line goes back to the 'canister' thing. On the coupe it attaches to the top front fitting. On the sedan it attaches to the plastic thing tucked up under the back window behind the trunk lid torsion bars. The other lines from the 'canister' thing look like vent lines to the fuel tank. The coupe has 3, the sedan has 2. There is also a line from the 'canister' to the fuel filler neck.
The sedan is easy to figure out, look in the trunk and/or pull the back seat and its all right there in your face. The coupe....my god there is shit all over the place. I can see where all the vent lines go, but i cant quite find where the fuel comes from. Its not shown. Looks like the front side of the tank or front top of tank on the passanger side. There you go. The parts list sure does help.LOL Angelo PS. the fuel line goes straight to the tank. On the coupe, it seems to enter near the fuel level sender. the vents on the coupe tank are on top at the very corners. Oh, my I wrote a lot i hope this helps. Worst case, i can scan some of these pages. [ Edited by ang94541 on 2002/3/12 2:19:51 ]

Excellent question. I don't know the answer but it reminded me of a question I had for the group. If Juan were to want to run a return line to the tank, for fuel injection or something, does one of the lines return to the tank or do they go to the charcoal cannister? I can see several lines running to and from the front and back of the car but I don't know if any go into the top of the tank. I guess I could look in my service manual but anyone who knows me can attest that I'm far too lazy for that.
Tim ps This is for US spec cars.

I have a ute and I am upgrading fuel lines. I was wondering if the tank located in the side panel on the drivers side in the tray is a surge tank or just a tank that the fuel return lines feed to. I have traced both the return line and feed line from the engine bay. The return line goes straight to the bottom of the surge tank. The feed line comes from the surge tank, into the fuel tank then re-emerges and runs to the engine bay. I am fitting a fuel pump so where does it go? Between the main tank and the engine bay? Or can it go on the out let of the surge tank?
