#4 Re: a12 pilot bush

Thanks for measuring Benny. Seems to be just about spot on compared to the celica shaft.

Thanks too Dattoman. I thought I was off the hook, but looks like I've stuffed up. What you've said makes sense. The OD of the Dellow supplied bush is about 0.991" which suggests it sits in the fly wheel like you suggested. With any luck, the celica shaft just sits in the original bush and I haven't done any damage just yet. I imagine the gearbox wouldn't last long at all if the end of the spigot was completely floating. I'd expect some serious vibration and horrible noises if this was the case.

Looks like a better install the correct bush sooner rather than later.

Cheers for you help boys

Doesn't the Dellow bush actually go into the flywheel not the back of the crank as the input shaft is shorter on the Celica box than the Datto one... so your input shaft might flop around and drop a front bearing or worse ?

I'm only assuming this as I run a bearing in the centre of the flywheel rather than a bush anyway so I'm not 100% sure

You should be just fine. Std Datsun bush is 12.18mm ID. Incidentally Dellow charge a small fortune for their Pilot bush, When I called the other week, I was quoted $38 + gst.

Hi,

Can anyone confirm the bore of the original pilot bush for an a12? Tech wiki lists it as 0.48", which i'm guessing is correct, but just wanted to know if there was a chance it could be any other size. Reason I'm asking is that I've just replaced my original datsun 4 speed with a reconditioned celica 5 sp from Dellow in Sydney. It wasn't until I got everything back together (and car running) that I realised I forgot to install the new pilot bush provided by Dellow. I'm hoping I can get away with using the original bush. The engine was reconditioned recently, so I'm assuming bush was replaced then, or it was still in good condition.

My verniers tell me that the bush supplied by Dellow has a 0.473" bore which I assume is fine. From what I can tell, it looks as though the original datsun 4 sp. and celica 5 sp. have the same size input shaft which would be rather convenient for me. I've had the car running for a while now and everything seems fine, but if I need to fit the new bush then there's no choice. I don't want to wreck my new box!
