After reading through this again..............I'm leaning towards convert Datsun speedo and after market tach to fit the holes in the TD dash.

Datsun A-series tachometer cable drive
![]() See Tach Drive for photos and some details. I don't know where you would get one, except buying used from race car classified ads. On second thought, call or email Peter Zekert, the Datsun 1200 race car expert. http://www.peterzekert.com/for-sale Nissan did sell a tachometer cable drive distributor back in the 1980s, but they no longer do. Regarding a speedometer cable adapter or custom cable, a speedometer place (I would have thought) would know more about it than us Datsun guys. Maybe a speedo shop run by an old-timer would be more knowledgable. Certainly I have learned the most about speedometer repair from old british-car guys.

Yes, unfortunately Nissan is like that now.
You can get the truck sender at any local auto parts store. Ask for a 1982 Datsun 720 Pickup oil pressure switch. It may or may not be what you are looking for. There is a picture in the Oil Pump link above.

Thanks all for responding. Yes I am trying to get both the mechanical Tach and speedometer's running on the MGTD dash. They both have operating cables coming from them which both respond to turning. I spoke with a guy in a local speedometer shop and he is more focused on repairing the units. I have heard there are adapters but need a source for them and probably a place to change leghhts of cable. I see a brass removable nut at the rear of the engine near the firewall about 1/2 in diameter. The speedo guy said he thought many tachs would run off cam and there should be an access point there. AS it looks liek this nut was added after ( the engine is painted but this nut is not) I think it may give access to a square hoel on the cam designed to take a cable. There may also be mechnical access on the tranny for Speedometer but I don't know where it may be.
Nissan parts guy looked at me like I had two heads when I said I needed info on an A-14 engine... I said, " There you go -- Built in Obselecense!!! DOn't you expect your cars to last 30 years? What kind of junk are you sellling now?" :) I could use after market -- just not sure how close they'd fit in dash ---It is not like I am racing it-- The engoine may go 70-80 but the frame and suspension would stop about 65 mph.

Can you clarify tachometer cable.................do you mean mechanical tach?? Basically we all use after market tachs, there was a factory tach for 1200's and B210's been they are on the rare side........eaiser to use aftermarket. As for hooking up the speedo cable, I'm assuming you use the A14 and Datsun transmision? If you need to hook to the TD speedo there are usually places that can fabricate an adapter but as the car is already modded I'd be tempted to use a B210 speedometer and fabricate a new facia to match the TD dash.

Hi Lawrence,
I believe the oil sender did not come from an A14 originally. I'm told they are somewhat common on 1980-1986 Datsun 720 pickups. Click Oil pump, see section "oil pressure sender". The A14 engine manual is part of a B210 or Datsun 210 repair manual.
