thanks all for your help I was given a electronic dissy off a Suzuki sierra that I modified to fit,had to machine the housing a bit, shorten the shaft, turn the drive gear upside down havent fired it up yet maybe tomorrow, the only thing I've noticed is that it now turns the opposite way to the inteded Suzuki cap markings ie:Suzuki-clockwise/Datsun-anticlockwise but I can see this being a prob after setting timing, fingers crossed!!!

If ucan't find a second hand one try nissan Parts Australia. I enquired about one for my A15 and they quoted $270. It takes 5 weeks to arrive from Japan though. Nissan will ship it to your closest Nissan parts dealer

Its expensive but this one appears as if it will fit on your front mounting datsun, not only that it is also an electronic distributor which should give you trouble free motoring for years to come.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ELECTRONIC ... ories&hash=item2ec1064e99 Item location is Australia so win for you! Please note I am not affiliated with this seller, I simply am in the same boat as you and have considered this distributor as an option.

will a later A12[centre dizzy]fit a early[front mount]A12 with out modification? Yes, only the timing plate needs a very simple mod which hand tools can do. See Using Newer Distributor.
