Alright cool thank you so much :D. I am going to look into both the CA18DET and the A15, but it can't be too easy, school wont accept that lol.

240Z engine is a terrible swap for a 1200. It's too long to fit in the engine compartment for one thing.

240SX engine is a great swap. 2.4 liters is exactly twice the displacement of the original 1.2 liter engine. See KA Engine Swap

Best swap may be the CA18DET -- $1350 including engine, 5-speed and ECU/wiring. But not the easiest swap.

I would swap in an A15 engine. 25% size increase and nearly bolts right in.

I am located in Washington state... I am just looking for an engine+transmission (5 speed transmission) combo that doesn't require me to start chopping up too many things and that is inexpensive at the same time. Sure I want to get some extra power out of the swap but I don't need an overly beefed up drag car :P. People have been telling me that the 240z engine is a good swap for a 1200... but no one I have talked to is sure, and it is really important that I get this right the first time because I need to finish this to graduate high school and I am low on funds.

Location first. And your driving ambitions with it.

What are you after it wont be much for 1000 so I guess you are just afteran overdrive for freeway low rpm at speed and more grunt all round.

Only 2 choices
1. needs engineering and L series from a rusty 180b/200b or collect in bits from Ozdat then you still need to engineer it for such a conversion & learn to DIY.
Whatever you do you most likely need engineering which is 500-800 for that.
2.
An A14 crank, a12a rods, milled A15 pistons will give you extra 200cc but overdrive
you will need an economy diff centre only available in the USA.
About 300 plus postage for a 3.545 R & P.
3. Same as above but engineering might be needed for an A14 or A15

choice 2 is the safest in most states.

So I am not on here a lot and I don't know where to post these kind of things... but I really need some help. For my senior project I have decided I would like to swap my standard 1200 coupe engine and transmission. This would be all fine and dandy if I wasn't on a budget, and had any idea where to look. I was wondering if someone could tell me what engine and transmission works really well that I could get for no more than $1000... maybe 1 or 2 hundred more but that is all I can do :/
