Lol! An engine is an engine, it's a lump of metal with holes in it regardless of what letting is on the valve covers.

Pretty sure Maddat rear end doesn't have leaf springs and the bloke wants to keep it on the road.

Please draw up some plans of the Subaru transaxle setup tho! I'd love to see how the shifter would work as it would be fighting for space with the number plate and the pos A-Series could be used as an arm rest and you mite have enough space in the tray to fit your pea sized brain in there which defeats the purpose of having a ute.

You're a space cadet.

I apologise I didnt read this thread correctly "stinking to leaf" and the title "Best rear suspension setup for a ute?" just ideas from Scotty from Maddat seemed good at the time.

Datsunbogan I dont see Maddat's advice as stupid, cant say the same for your wannabe tough hate bleats or putting a toyota engine in a datsun.

Sykine has a good leaf treatment on offer

I had my leafs reset 5inch lower with some extra plates welded in for good measure.
Then I followed up with some 2inch lowering blocks to get a little tuck in the rear and this resulted in the little guy sitting on the bump stops. Wasn't really going after the solid rear end feel but it'll do for now, plus its a bit of a giggle as its not a daily and just a work in progress. Next is coil ]over sleeves and Bilsteins for the front and unfortunately a new motor.

i'd put all new bush's in, get your leafs refurbed and/or reset. when it comes to shocks i'd get a set of bilsteins with custom valving. optimally some coilovers up front would be sweet, you could scale the car and adjust your front/rear weight distibution

Geez you have some stupid ideas??

Dude asks a simple question about rear suspension setup and you suggest mid mounting an A-series engine with Frankenstein drivetrain?

What the hell have you been smoking???

Dude, get your leaf springs reset by a professional, if they reset them too far they will not have any spring left in them and it will drive and launch like ass, get the extra lows by using small lowering blocks. Replace all the bushes and fit new shock absorbers.

That's what mine has, it handles fine, you dont have to butcher your car and it wont cost a fortune.

Maddat IRS hands down,
But midmounted A series using fwd only lsd Subaru box/diff
would be my choice for a 1200 ute or L28 for LWB ute.

As the boy's have said all new bushes and some composite leaf springs..

best setup would be get a mcdonald's racing 4-link kit (or some other 4 link kit) some KYB coilovers and do a 4 link...

Weld it up then that's the best rear suspension setup to do for the ute..
