compression test, pour some oil down the spark plug hole and if the compression rises you have worn/broken rings.

...although my A14 started smoking in #1 and #4, so it can happen. A simple re-ring job normally makes it right again.

It is not common for A14s to smoke on number 4 only as far as I know.

you mentioned 'as they do'.
does it mean that its common on all a14s as sign of worn rings,or is it for any other engine as well? actually my A14 is not running ok at all, that's y am asking thanks Yas

does it have a head? I'd be interested if you wouldn't mind keeping it until dec? I can pay you now but I'll be driving up then and could pick it up then.. otherwise I'll look in to freight..
