#8 Re: Any 1 got a real diff?

It looks like the gazelle diff may be the go. I have a mitsubishi scorpion wreck and I was considering using that,(as Andrew Dennis has) but Im not sure what sort of modifications are envolved, or if it is to wide for the ute. I want to take the easest way out, so its down to the scorpion or the Gazelle. Advise guys?

the australian gazelle is drum brakes, there were disc braked diffs in japan, with lsd's,but the supply of these has long dried up.any s12 gazelle diff will work.as for a replacement axle to get you going, maybe someone in the club has a spare,as i think there is nothing else that will be the same length with the same splines,stanza,180b wagon,c22 are all longer.standard axle 1200 are all too small in the spline.aint one-off parts a joy.

Is the Gazelle drum or disc? is there any year in particular I should be looking for? Are there any other axels that will fit a 1200 ute diff? eg 120y, 1200 coupe, 1200 sed just to get me running again?

the difference is the mounts for the suspension arms.the gazelle is a 4 link with coil springs.all these mounts will have to be removed & 1200 spring perches welded on.i have seen a 1200 coupe with a gazelle diff with most of the mounts still on (the 1200 in the picture in auto action,in fact, with the sr20),but it looked very busy under there.they are approximately 50mm wider than a 1200.the handbrake cable should connect without a problem.the price depends on the wrecker & with how convincing you are.'mate,it's just a bloody gazelle'.you can then get a lsd from a 720 4wd,which has the same axle sizes.

What exactly will need to be changed to get the gazelle diff under there? I asume that it is slightly wider than the 1200 diff, which is good, as I have 17" lenzo consept 5 rims off a lancer going back on once the diff is sorted. Any 1 know what they are worth roughly, and has any 1 got one?

a h190 is definitely the go,but drum to drum length will be a problem.the only h190 housing narrow enough is out of a 520 ute,but is a 6 stud axle,& they aren't exactly common.easiest to find will be a nissan gazelle, though you'll have to remove all the mountings.you can also use the diff out of a c22 van, with the a15 motor.these come in alloy 4.6:1 ratios or steel 4.1:1.don't worry about bluebird wagon housings,as these are much too wide to fit under a 1200.with a ca18 turbo, try for the gazelle housing,as these have bigger axles & spider gears than the c22 van, which are the same size as h165 axles on the c22 diff.you then have to run front wheel drive offset wheels on the back to bring the wheels back into the wheel well.you could also run flares.hope this helps.as for opening the falcon boot without the keys, can you get into the cabin,as later chooktins had openings into the boot.if all else fails,an axe can be helpful & phaeraputic at the same time.

OK. I can help u out. Maybe. I have a H190 sitting in the boot of my old XD Falcon. And this is the situation im in. Currently the falcon is out of rego. The council has been on my back for ages about so i moved it to a freinds house, but still on the steet. Now, the cops rekon its stolen and have put a notice on the windsheild. Now, this is were the problem lies. One of the blokes who was living there, took the keys and intended to flog it and take off. All though he couldnt get in cause the only door handle that worked was the back right, and he couldnt figure it out so left the car but no keys!!! Bastard!! So, the probllem is getting the diff out of the boot before council tows it!! I cant even move the thing. So i'll probably have to break the lock and get it out,

Anyone!! Suggest a method to break a damn falcon boot lock!!!!!!!

The diff aint too flash in fact its rough as. It'll need a rebuild with new drums and shoes. If u wanna spend big bucks on it this diff will never break, There pretty hard to come by so thats why i got to get it out soon!
