SA engine conversion

I'm starting to look into engine conversions for my 1200 ute. Just wondering what the best engine to use is without having to get it engineered. I live in South Australia so not sure on law etc. If anyone knows the SA laws and could help out that would be fantastic.
I have an a14 in there at the moment and was thinking of either keeping that and getting work done or going ca18de Cheers
