Re: Ignition Lock - Operation

Hey all,
So following on from that first post - the actual ignition locking mechanism appears to be working correctly, with the tab that pushes out of the ignition unit into the column itself retracting and engaging as would be expected. I have removed the ignition lock from the steering column I can see both the spline of the steering column and the bush which sits around this, with the bush having a section cutout for the locking tab to engage with. The bush must be connected to the spline in some manner so that the wheel cannot be turned when the locking pin is in place, however the bush as it is at the moment can freely spin around the spline.... Has anyone else come across this issue and what did you do to fix it... initial thoughts are to MIG weld the bush to the spline (just some small tacks to avoid a heat build up). Thanks in advance

Ignition Lock - Operation

Hey all,
My ignition lock in the 78 1200 Ute is playing silly buggers and is now not locking when I remove the ignition key. I have taken the whole unit off the steering column and can see that the locking tab is still present and appears to be functioning (albeit that it doesn't stop the wheel turning). Does anyone know whether the locking tab should be fixed in place (i.e. I should not be able to push it back into the ignition unit when the key is removed?) Im not sure whether the edges are just worn and slightly rounded - thus allowing the pin to be pushed back as the steering column turns. I have been doing a little reading on the tech wiki and can't seem to find an answer - so thanks in advance for any insights or ideas. Cheers You can view topic.
