That reminds me ... I'm using a 1200 fusible link in my Mustang 5.0 !! The short was the infamous ignition switch (subject of a Ford Recall). Nearly burned the car down! It didn't break the fuse link but it bubbled it. The link failed two years later. I used the 1200 link cause I had one handy. I know the 1200 one will work better (I mean it will blow out if necessary) because ...

The fusible link burnt out in my 1200 a couple of times, which is why I had carried a spare ... On the 1200, I never did have a real short. I think it burned because of oxidation on the link itself. The big spade terminals seemed to get corroded for some reason.

But even so, an electrician should look for a short ... doh!

i know of only 1 good auto sparky around down here and his manaro auto electrics in qbn allways fixes my #### up good and has prety good prices but i dunno if thats cause i go there often or not anyway theres the drum what sparky did u see ? some where in belconen? he must have #### for brains not replace a fusable link and not fix the short

Lobster everything you said is exactly right!
To me a blown fuse means a short somewhere!
Ablown fusable link means a big short as it is a higher rated fuse!
Obviously they are incapable auto electricians and just put a new fuseable link and said oh well its not blowing now so it must be alright! ( Donkeys!)

If it was a shop that I worked at I would be really embaressed and I would do like 1200rallycar said!
It's like if you go to a mechanic and your brakes don't work! he checks and there is no fluid! so he just puts somemore and says thats $60 thanks and seeya later!
If you crash from this he is the lisenced repairer so he is held responsible!
Fair enough you pay for the original problem but he should pay for what his not doing has caused!

*** I think I am going to move down to Canberra and open my Auto Electrical shop!
From what you say there is a lot of buisness down there! Plus if I do things right I will get plenty of customers from these donkeys!***

sounds pretty shonky, he stuffed up, he should fix it as soon as you bring it back and put the other people on hold!!!

Well when I got the sparky to fix my fusible link in the car and fix the short. What he did was fix the fusible link.
So I was goign to work today and the radio stops and I smell something so I pul ove rto the side of the road adn turn the engine off and whtie smoke starts to pour out from under the bonnet. I then pop it and it gets worse I try to look in and see what is burning, but can't see anything through all the smoke. Aroudn 20 seocnds later I can see trhough and it appears taht the wire that had the short in it wasn't fixed or replaced and is pretty much fu(ked. It is all crispy and is brittle to touch and breaks away like dried up spaghetti when I touch it.
So I try to find a sparky in the area. They are all booked up for 4 days or so. S's I get my dad to tow me back to the palce that "Fixed" it in the first place and he says that it won't be done today...
OK I think.
HE syas probably also wont be done tomorrow...
SHould be done monday.
Grumble grumble...
Anyway so he says that it was prbably this wire and I am like sh|t hey? The crispy burnt one?
But in my head because I am too nice.

The thing is he doesn't think that I asked him to fix the short as well. But I did just that he was busy talking to some cops that came up and wanted their daughters car fixed. So he wasn't really paying attention to me.
But even if he didn't ehar me say that. Wouldn't it be a pretty obvious thing to not just replace the fusible link and think that is it?
I would think that it has blown for some reason?
Like if you went to a tyre place witha blown tyre because there was a piece of metal from the guard hanging out and it punctured it. The tyre place wouldn't just put another tyre on and say see ya... They would fix the bit hitting the tyre. or tell you about or something. Not just hope everything was alright...

well my dad had to check his car cus the batery light came on but all it was was a fuse but any way wen his freind got the volt meter wen everything was right he first checked the batery with car going and it stayed the same for like about 20 sec then the amps went up
