Hi Allan, I'll let you know when I get hold of a set of 240Z lower arms. Still haggling with the wrecker over the price

Hi
Harry good to see you again, if what you say about the spring size of the 240z etc....then the 240z lower control arms can fit the stanza...... is that correxct??? this would increase the camber and track width a little.
Just what I need.....I hope...

Regards Allan

some of the info I have seen here is dubvious, one thing I have read I know to be wrong, and another thing I saw is downright dangerous.

Calipers
you should never use a caliper intended for a vented disc on a solid disc. EVER. The thinner solid disc COULD allow the pads to literally FALL OUT when they wear down, but definitely WILL reach a point where they fail to clamp the disc, before the pad is worn out.
If you really can't stop yourself from doing this, you should at the very least manufacture 4 equal sized spacers to the shape of the pad's backing plate, and fit them in the caliper behind each pad to allow for the thinner disc.

Remember it is not only your life in your hands when you mess with your brake system. If you are not 100% sure about what you are doing, don't do it.

Spring sizes
240Z definitely have the smaller spring seat. beleive me. same size as the 260Z, 1200, stanza, etc

Datsun 180b,stanza,c210 skyline, 1600 struts have same caliper mounts.
Datsun 180b, C210 skyline have same large cup size -> also 1600, 200B, 240K, 240Z, 280Z, I think the 260Z has the small dia springs.
Datsun 1200, stanza, 1600 have same small cup size - > not 1600, only 1200, 260Z, 120Y, stanza and not sure about Sunny.
Datsun 180b, stanza same length - > I think YES
Datsun 1200, skyline, 1600 same length I think they are similar (Check a shock absorber catalog).
Datsun Stanza, 180b, skyline have same stub axle and bearings -> NO these differe between the models, and there are 2 sizes of 180B ones.

What model stanza had the longer lower control arm. -> I thought they were all the same

Toyota Landcruiser calipers fit -> Don't Know
Skyline r31 calipers fit (recent post) -> Don't know
Commodore calipers fit -> 180B large Axle 1976?

I think the coupes have the twin spot sumitomos and the sedans just have a single piston slider type caliper. But yeah, just look for the twin spot calipers.

They fit under 13" wheels.

cool thanks,
how do i know if a 240k has sumitomo brakes in relation to model or year, or do you just look for twin spots

suspension travel is not a problem cause im not lowering, will the brakes fit under 13" wheels

the 240K struts will fit onto the stanza lower control arm (the 240K lower control arm is much longer than the Stanza - probably too long to use in a 1200. I will measure them later). They haver the larger spring seat, which will need to be removed and replaced with Stanza/1200 spring seat (or 60mm coils and adjustable platforms ). The 1200 strut tops fit. I will be able to tell you more about any possible camber change and any difficulties with brake lines or caliper clearance when I have a closer look at the struts. You may need a larger master cylinder to cope with the twin spot caliper as well (I assume you are talking about the twin spot sumitomo 240K brakes). The 240K strut is much shorter than the Stanza strut, which is a good thing - means more suspension travel is available which is important when lowering.

The strut length is the biggest drawback of the Stanza strut conversion - it will limit your suspension travel on a lowered car. The Stanza strut has the longest body of any of the struts I have (see earlier post)

the 200B Girlock caliper is identical to the Stanza Girlock caliper. I use the larger Commodore pads in these with some very minor grinding of the pad backing plates. Lots of good pads available for Commodores

I'm trying to sort out which struts I'll use next year as brakes are the 'weak link' on my car at the moment

putting in 240k struts, whats the deal? how is it done? what is the brake package and camber change ect.ect.?

if i decide thats too hard can i just bolt 200b disc and caliper to my stanza struts? do i need the 200b disc or can i just swap caliper?

Davo commodore calipers fit but they are not worth the trouble. the bolt holes are the same but the offset is different. I had to use a 10mm spacer on the mounts and had to machine some of the sunny hubs to use old ( not vented ) skyline discs. much better to use stanza stuff.

Hi
Regarding calipers
Stanza, 200B, have the same caliper mounts

Cup sizes I think they are all the same cup sizes

Stub axle bearings Stanza, Bluebird, 200B, R31 Skyline are the same bearings

Stanza Lower control arms same as Sunny and 120Y.

I have a Sunny Coupe with Stanza Struts and Stanza brakes. I definately know that the lower arms are the same. Although the smae size springs are in the 1200, 120Y, Sunny, and Stanza. Now that should give you anm idea of the different Spring rates and Sway bar sizes. 120Y sway Bar is a good bar for the 1200. 200B has a good pad area on their calipers (Girling) with 200B rotors. Apparently they're a good thing on a budget. Slotted DBA Rotors and good Pads makes a difference.

Hope this helps

See Ya soon
