I remembering reading in the Tech Wiki that it grounds through the dash so I am happy you confirmed this for me.

I guess the extra earth is for other model Datsuns.

Thanks again for the help.....until next time I find another wiring anomaly.

That's for an earth. 1200 dash frame is grounded so it doesn't need it.

Riddle solved !!

I did not know an illuminated one even existed. However on my aftermarket replacement cigarette lighter there is a little tab for an electrical connector on the brass housing. I also wonder what that is for.

Good question jeff. It doesn't make any sense to me. So I look in the back of the book at the wiring diagram and it is the OPTION illuminated cigalighter. My ute only had the standard lighter. I guess just leave one blue wired disconnected?

Riddle me this......why is there 2 blue wires to the cigarette lighter? Where does the second go?

Also, the diagram shows one single green wire to the flasher unit but the flasher unit has two connectors on it

Yes, the wire goes between all three but you have to unwrap the harness to see. You can tap into it near the IGN switch (easiest to find the wire as it is uncovered there).

I cannot find the BW wire near the tach. It is only at the fuse box, ignition switch, and at the plug that connects to the engine harness

And also, where is the exact location of the wire to tap into?

Thanks DD. That will be one mystery solved. I will look for the BW wire for the ignition, cut it and tap into the tachometer. Does it matter which order the wires from the tachometer connect to the cut BW wire in my dash harness?

I was thinking about this. If you connect near the coil, it lengthens the coil feed wire 3x as long as stock. Which will cut down on voltage a little bit. Others have done it and it works, but I'd connect right near the tachometer. It's neater with less side effects and less extra cables in the engine bay.
