I think wires got crossed its actually the opposite.
Earlier block thicker then as production casting improves they use less iron hence late A12 blocks not being able to go 77mm compared to early blocks.

"Earlier" means the first four months of production over the approximately 3 years of production.
I doubt that they made the block weaker to support the higher revving, higher output engine. I do not know what change was made to the block, but it is probably in Service Bulletin No. 189 Introduction of Datsun Sunny 1200 GX (B110GTK, KB110GK), April 1970.

nteresting! could it be these early blocks are thicker cast as the speedway guys seem to have no issues with 10k rpm and 77mm bores?

11010-H2300 was the GX block, however it was also used by regular 1200s after May 1970.
Meaning that the GX block was not unique. It's the same block as the single-carb engine.
