#14 Re: 120y borgwarner into a 1200 ute

I havent done the finished product post since i put the ute back on the road in september Lastyear

Pretty much the drive shaft Out of the 120y has to be shortened by 20mm to allow it not to chew out the gear box seal

In the end i found some diff plates out of a 120y coupe/wagon i cut the original shock studs off and put the 1200 ute size to suit it ended up being 16mm bolts wiith spring washers

Makes a nice diffence on the road esspecialy down the highway with the efi and 5 speed for good measure

Not a good photo but the diff is in

Just slotted onto the springs on the big washers that got made got the shock plates to still fit correct as 2 U bolts are sitting a bit sideways and i need to find wider bump stops to suit and the 120y cable on the diff dosent fit as its to short but i think the 1200 h145 diff cable is slightly longer so i have to try it out tomorrow

The axle housing on the datsun 1200 is about 40mm
The borgwarner is about 60mm

Understood about the brakes drum.

No understand about the saddle. Are the axle housing tubes larger diameter? Did you use the Ute u-bolts, or do you have to use the 120Y u-bolts?

B210 use an Isoclamp system which means the bolts are 3 inches apart, even though the leaves are the same 50 mm width.

The 120y i pulled this diff out of had done 450.000

The drums would of been machined twice in there life so thats why i had to get 2nd oversized

The saddles on the borgwarner diff are wider then the 1200 ute so the shock plates had to have 2 U bolt holes drilled further appart

Nice pics.

Was the drum worn so much that it needs oversize shoes? Or for some other reason?

What's the diameter of the axle housing tubes? I imagine they are bigger around, are they bigger than the u-bolts from Hitachi ute axle tubes?

Some more photos

Part numbers for the wheel cylinders and 2nd oversized shoes

The shock pads from the ute and the 120y
The 120y U bolt holes are further appart to the 1200 so the 1200 pad has to have two holes drilled further appart

The washers for the diff to sit on the springs that we made to fit the 1200 springs
