with my 1200,the fan was ahead of the radiator because there wasn't enough room between the radiator & the water pump,& i couldn't cut the radiator support panel due to club car rules.yes,it definitely was a fan off an n12 pulsar.in the end,i just gave up on the idea,& sacrificed the 2 or 3 horsepower the stock fan was using.

Yeah, I used a radiator from a B210. It was bigger than the 1200 radiator, but bolted right in. The shroud came with it and fitted perfectly on the radiator and to the stock 1200 fan.

mate you will find like someone already said that properly wired fans either blow from the front or suck from the back, as if it was the opposite when you are driving the fan would be doing nothing and the wind blowing through it while driving would cause the fan to go backwards and you would find you would burn out fan motors very frequently

i recon if ya gunna have a thermo fan you should make it suck air from the front of the car. cause if ya gunna have it sucking air from the engine side like blowing the air is already going to be warm from the engine heat.

someone actually told me average flow rates of thermos and mechanical fans and the mechanical fans flow HEAPS more so if any doubt over cooling ability stick with a mechanical for sure
of also heard people say adding a shroud made a huge diffrence too, was the 120y one an easy fit?

An electric fan won't cool any better than the stock fan and stock shroud (for example, use the 120Y radiator and shroud).
However, a thermostat controlled electric fan is off when the engine's cold, and might turn off at high speed, freeing up enough HP to be significant. The air is always drawn from outside the car, though the radiator, and ejected out through the engine compartment. Like B310gx, I've also seen an electric fan installation cause overheating (on a highly modified engine), where putting the factory system back on fixed it. It depends on the fans, I guess. Most electric fan kits are just fine if they are correctly sized, and installed according to the manufacturer's directions.

might have to get me an expansion thing for my 1200 it overheats on hot days in traffic with alfa radiator and mech fan, id love to go thermo but i think i need to swap radiator first
as was already implied, some thermos go on engine side and suck through some on outside and blow through but not visa-versa, theres not much room in the front of the radiator for a thermo so id think most 1200s have it on the engine side

Was it a dedicated automotive cooling fan? So often you see bodged heater fans etc fitted that don't work. I have never heard of that with a correctly fitted automotive one.

Blocking air to the radiator??? Did you have the fan installed on the outside (not the engine side) of the radiator?

i found with a thermo fan on my 1200 coupe,it caused it to overheat,even with a triple core.this was due to the fan blocking air to the radiator,even with it running flat out.so,i went back to the plastic fan & a shroud i found in an wrecking yard on a 120y &,bye bye overheating.weird,i tells ya!
