Broken wires are very rare. Most commonly is the cause is never figured out, and chalked up to some mysterious casue

If it is one problem, like on my ute, the Temp Gauge wire never worked, so I just ran one new wire from the engine and spliced it into the dash loom

If it is many things, better to find the cause or replace the loom

Ute dash loom comes in several versions:
HARNESS ASSY-INSTRUMENT/Instrument Harness Cable 24013
24013-H1002 (up to '73-3)
24013-H1022 (up to '71-3) (op.)
24013-H1206 (up to '71-4)
24013-G1000 73-74?
24013-G1602 -7803
24013-G1661 7804-8109
24013-G1900 8110-8608

Doesnt look physically damaged, looks old, but it has been cut into for central locking and speakers in the doors....

Today, I found there is power at the switches once turned on for lights, wipers etc... I go and check for power at the connections to the wiper motor, washer, etc and there is none. I have cleaned all connections to each of th above.

Can someone please tell me if to cut the harness up and replace the wiring or if to get a another harness, prolem is I could end up with another harness with broken wires!!

I have checked all relays and when powered they tick so they are ok.

Appreciate some imput guys.

Thankyou!

Dogdy harness?

Replace it IF
* Cut/hacked/spliced
* Burnt/melted
* Physically damaged

Otherwise a harness just needs a good cleaning. Clean the connector terminals. Spray with De-oxit

A new used dash wiring harness is not very to find.

I have a spare if you get stuck, and i am sure plenty others here do too.

Wiring is always a pain, even on our simple Datsuns

Thanks Mate

Unfortunatley its not the case.

I have cleaned the earth wires and where it bolts to the chassis, new bolt also installed. All bright and shiny.

Done a clean, spray contact cleaner in some of the connections to the horn, washer and wiper.

Along the way when i was moving wiring to clean, the lights were flickering.

I suspect i have a dodgy wiring harness.

I also noticed the wiper motor was warm when checking the connections.

I will have to go over it all with a test light and see if it is the harness.

Fingers crossed it isnt as its no fun job swapping the harness etc out of the dash when i have just had the dash out and put all new bulbs in.....

When that kind of thing happens I tend to suspect the grounding wires.

First make sure these wires are connected well, if the connectors are rusty, sand them to bright metal

Make sure they cables are not damaged, and that they are securely fastened. If they are loose, remove and carefully inspect for corrosion. Clean thoroughly if possible, replace if necessary.

Thanks Mate

Got all the dash lighting sorted!!

Wining!!

Now, weird issues.....

Sometimes the head lights will work in low beam, sometimes only highbeam the right hand one,

Wipers wont work, washer bottle wont work, horn wont work>>>>

I have tested each item with full power from battery and they all work fine no dramas, its when I pull the switch to operate them from the dash they wont work........

I connected up the from indicators the go under the front bumper bar and the flashing was very slow but can hear 2 clicks per flash when operating. Normally one click per flash. Really Weird!!

I am thinking have I got a bad Earth??

Or is it likely I have broken wiring in the harnnes?

All the fuses are ok and not blown, connections look clean, but thinking I probably should stick some emry paper an clean it just in case?

Probably best to remove the cluster so it can be examined closly

You see that socket has only one wire? The bulb is earthed via contact with the cluster metal body. Maybe the socket is slightly corroded? or maybe the spade connector is corroded? A pencil eraser will clean up the brass coating. The bottom contact is some kind of lead, and can be scraped clean with a screwdriver tip

Thanks Mate.

Got to it, changed the bulb with a new one, still doesnt work.

Seems like it is a wiring issue.........
