#4 Re: 56A or 56L?

Not much value in either, maybe $75. Everyone has a 4-speed, everyone wants a 5-speed. 56A is not rare, it was the base gearbox since mid 1972

Ok and according to Tech Wiki the 56A can be matched up with an A15 engine whereas the 56L is not recommended. So not much value in the 56L box??

If it has no marks, it is the original (56L). The newer, improved 56A has a large cast ID on the right side

#1 56A or 56L?

Didnt want to hijack a recent post about upgrading a 1974 Datsun, so posted pics here of my 56 transmission. Didnt know there was an A and L series. The one I have has no markings. It was matched up with an A12 with GX head and dual Hitachi's. Is this an A or L series?
