nother bang for bucks is water inj, just some water into your inlet keeps the carbon deposits away for better overall performance

interesting DD you found 1340cc to be the limit good stuff but to achieve 1338cc
most early A12 engines are too old to use 78mm bores but have heard of 77mm yet
sleeving is more affordable vs fitting A14 crank, rods, pistons bore honing etc.

Electronic Ignition won't make more power, but it does increase reliability & reduce maintenance. Not sure I'd call it a "bang for your buck"

I'm almost positive you could use a ceramic high RPM ball bearing pack to support two stainless precision ground tube valves with a .0002" slip tolerance.

I want to get a small engine to test this out.

Didn't Suzuki sell a rotary-valve motorcycle?

Would that be a cheap bang for the buck mod to an A12, certainly no engineering is needed

I posted the Coates info many years ago and they spent big but is too complex to manufacture compared to the Saunders however the same ceramic coatings seem why they are possible.
This page shows some methods for education as ceramic coatings are used in jet turbines
and have come down in prices since their introduction hence rotary valve engines are possible

I want to find where to get the ceramic bearing surfaces. I know you can get 75,000 RPM ceramic bearings for relative inexpensive prices.

This would be so fun to make a concept model then move to a full on 4 cylinder head.
