Yes, turn the input flange by hand. If only one axle turns, it is not LSD. If each axle turns different directions, it is not LSD
If both axles turn the same direction, grab one axle to prevent it from turning. If then the center flange won't turn it is LSD. If the center flange turns with one axle held still, it isn't LSD

Just one more question :)
Are all R31 diff's LSD? Is there a way to find out if the diff is LSD? Thanks in advance

Just remember there are different R31 diffs (five I think). That looks like the Borg Warner 78 type. Which came two versions: R31 Skyline with heavy-duty 28-spline axles, and R31 Pintara with regular-duty 25-spline axles
BW78 is the only one with 9-bolt rear cover. I believe it also has an unusual 6-bolt tailshaft flange Borg Warner 78 diff

G'day Avizhome,
I got mine done by "Diffs by Terry" I cant find his number but just search him on face book. He is located in Lansvale. I cut all the brackets off my diff, pulled out the center and took all the brakes off. Took me a few hours with a grinder but saved me a bit of coin. I gave him the standard diff from my coupe and just asked for it to be the same dimensions. Fits in sweet! Although I need to make some new shock mounts as the coupe ones are too narrow. The flange on the R31 diff is different that the standard 1200 shaft not sure if it will fit. I'm running an SR20DE with a stumpy 5 speed so I need to do some searching for what shaft will fit. My Auto 1200 shaft fits in the 5 speed but the unis are small AF. So I will try find something beefier to fit. hope this helps.

Hi BishopB110,
I am from the west, 2171 Liverpool area. can you please provide me with their contact number? And what length did you get it shorten to? Also do you have to get a different tailshaft as well or you can use your stock one? Thanks again :)

Just got my R31 diff back about a month ago. Was under $1000 to get done.
I got a lot of quotes from places in Sydney, any where from $800 to $1500. Where you are located though.

When i did mine close to 10 years ago now, the axel was a couple of hundred, but i can't remember how much it was to cut and align the housing i'm sorry. I wouldn't like to speculate in todays money.

Thanks @sooty_grunter,
really appreciate your help. Do you know how much it will cost me to get it shorten?

Looks like R31 to me. Brakes are R31 and sway bar mounts are in the usual spots. There will be an aluminium tag attached to the back of the housing on one of the top bolts that will have the ratio and a serial number on it, not sure about a year model though.
Might get someone else to chime in with more. Good luck with your project You can view topic.
