It's not so much using a "long rod" but it's the rod/stroke ratio. It's a fine tuning kind of thing, it adds a small fraction horsepower, but that might be more than the other guys get
So what's the rod/stroke ratio of a stock A12? 1.74 A14 is 1.73 Is that considered a long or short? Chevy small block considers that ratio a long-rod motor (a stock 350 is only 1.64 and a long-rod 350 is traditionally 1.72) 30 years ago 1.8 was considered ideal for Pro Stock V8 racing, but now 1.7 is considered better So the A-series already has long rods! Some even say that since the heads aren't the latest type of high flow designs, using a shorter rod will make more power

The pistons in question are pop up style of sorts so don't think milling the would be an issue. I also have no clue whether a long road motor would be the advantage it,is in say an L series.

Lots of ol school pistons came in blanks
You can still buy forged blanks and machine for height like flat tops

I had the zx14 24.5mm piston and I tell you there is no room for milling or anything as the valve pockets are very deep into the skirt as they are.
Long rod would make the rods heavier and cam timing complicated to dial in properly as the 122mm short rods are already good enough for 1.75 rod ratios Now if you can fit that zx head on the a12 block it would be more beneficial or use Simons blackhawk a12 headed beat for 9000-10000rpm true 220hp potential without worrying about pushrods and valves flying apart or rebuilds every race.

While researching something for my F500 race car I noticed that pin height on ZX10 pistons were close enough that you could use them in conjunction with A14/A15 rods and create a long rod A12. The pistons would require some slight milling off the top. Off the top of my head I think the pin height was 22.8.
