nearly all 4 cylinder engines use a flat plane crankshaft
only one Murican v8 does as well now the Voodoo. The T series engine was like a big AY engine from Toyota

Yeah we here in USA including Puerto Rico got the T motors, just never in Celicas -- our Ts came in Corolla
The famous hemi four-cylinder used a flat-plane crankshaft

I had a 79 as well as a 77 and used the GT tail lights
which have more bezels basically exact Mustang copies otherwise. Both had the 18rg but one was 2.2 litres and that thing punched so well it was like halve a windsor :) well halve a 400hp one. My 79 was done by a friend in Ford Blaze Blue with black everywhere just GT badges in red. Puerto Rico were mad on the T series motors, 800hp was common for them from the 3tc, quite amazing basically halve a hemi but smaller again. Pushrods again. 289 Windsors are one of my favorite motors of all time pity they never became what the LS is now and pity they never used a flat plane crankshaft or 11rpm would be possible with todays pushrod improvements, its insane big blocks can hit 10,000rpm. https://st.hotrod.com/uploads/sites/21 ... ne&fit=around%7C596%3A398 Ponys are just so much more good metal with minimal plastic

Had some beaut liftbacks but after owning a few early Mustang fastbacks
I prefer the 22 for its originality as nothing comes close to its unique lines. The 22 was way more unique than the Nissan Z even if it tried to borrow from the 1967-1970 challenger, Gremlin and Camaro but like the Z great proportions. The 28 was designed to be a Pony for Japs on a budget for the fuel crisis. When you sit them side by side the 28 looks funny. I guess Toyota tried to go one up on the Nissan 1200 coupe by going larger but the finish and proportions on a 1200 coupe are way more beautiful. Still Nissan had way more original designs through the 60s and 70s than Toyota the japanese whitegoods of the automotive industry :)

Well dont blame them as the ta22 body is perhaps the most beautiful 70s toyota
of all even better looking and more original than the 2000gt. I would buy the TA22 today if it was available as a 30% larger body and v6. Could have been like a Porsche 911 for Toyota if they kept it going. https://scontent-lga3-1.cdninstagram.c ... instagram.com&_nc_cat=103

I can believe that. The truck guys were crazy about the 22R so they might have parted out all the Celicas. That would explain why I still see some 1st gen Celicas and some 2nd gen, but none of the 22R Celicas
All of our Celicas from the very start came with R engines. All 1982-1986 Celica came with 22R and the older models had 8R, 18R and 20R

I heard 22R celicas in the US were mainly crushed after taking out the 22R for off road and 4wd toyota pickups that also powered them. Plenty of 22r support still there for mudracing and other off road events that still love this engine. However they upgraded to the w58 or went back to the W50 which is way stronger than the w55, 56, 57 and newer hilux W based alloy plate versions.
The 22re with boost often made 900-1000lbs of torque in some setups with low rpm power peaks of 300kws which confused me for a while but they are super grunters. You can view topic.
