if the stock carb on the old girl was to have a jet kit put in (if possible?) which would be better the 32/36 or something that i am used to with more juice flowing through? Sure you can "jet" the stock Hitachi carb ... it will help a little to fatten up the air/fuel ratio. However, this carb is purposely on the small side for fuel economy and smooth throttle response. For performance (if you rev over 4,000 rpm regularly ...) use a 32/36 or another carb that you are familiar with. See the article referred to above for more info and ideas. Discussion continued in 32/36 or a bigger jetkit?.

hi long time listener first time caller.... i have a 120y full rebuild with 2 1/4 inch pipe, headers, yada yada... my question is this if the stock carb on the old girl was to have a jet kit put in (if possible?) which would be better the 32/36 or something that i am used to with more juice flowing through?

I originally got the GX head with the twin SU carbs. When I bought the rally car I got a manifold for twin Dellorto/Weber's thrown in, and it sits nice and snug on the GX head. I am gonna turf the twin SU's and find a set of Dellorto's/Weber's (twins) to suit. I reckon they will be about 40's.

The 32/36 is not "too big" for an A12 engine. If you want smooth response and the best fuel economy, stick with the stock Hitachi, but if you want to rev the engine up high, the 32/36 is a good carb.
The L-series carb has a different bolt pattern, so the carb (or the adapter) won't fit on the A-series manifold. Can you get a 32/36 manifold to fit a GX head? Probably not new ... usually an adapter is used with 32/36 carbs. Plus, all the GX manifolds I've seen are dual side-drafts. If you have a GX head, best to use the GX manifold and its twin carbs.
