good trip,

unfortunately i didn't make it up the rock, i decided that i would drink a chocalate milk drink that had been sitting in the car for the last three days (hot days),
i already chucked that morning trying to go up the kings canyon track, and half way up the rock i started to fell mighty ill again.
its actually a hard climb for even a fit person, although three-five year olds run straight up and down without a problem cheeky buggers

but on a good note, we all (3 of us) went quad bike riding while we were up there, we went for half an hour the first day then went back for 2.5 more then next

they were awesome fun,
they are a four wheel RWD motorbike, 250cc, we followed an instructor through all these little tracks (he went pretty quick), it was awesome fun, highly recommended to anyone who gets a chance

According to my parts book, there were only 2 kinds of diffs:

38300-H1000 3.9 Diff
38300-H1100 4.111 Diff (Optional on Van)

I'm unsure about the Utes. As they had a different H165 diff, I suspect they were all 3.9.

hey 1200rc, how was the trip? Did you walk to the top of the rock? 5000km is a long drive for anyone I reckon (even a Texan might admit it).

not taking the datto, my SOFT mates pulled out so im jumping in the back of my brothers mitsubishi starion (hope it can make the distance), bout 5000km round trip, ye old starion blows oil out the dipstick when the turbo kicks in, not very reassuring!

Lobster is correct about the sedan/coupe/wagon diffs.

Bluebird (910) S2 uses a 3.9 Ute diff centre..also the wagon/auto version of the same model Bluebird (910) has a 3.7 centre.

I'd 100% recommend 5 speed and 3.7 diff (If you can find one).

I have managed 200+kmh with 0.89 (5th) and a 3.9 bluebird diff.

The 5-speed is the way to go. They generally have a less-torquey first gear (less breakage), but fourth (direct) is unchanged, and 5th (overdrive) makes for easy highway cruising.

More on the term "higher gears": this is ambiguous, it can mean either way. Better to say "lower numerically" which is like "a 3.7 is lower numerically than a 3.9 gearset, but it gives you a higher gear".

Sedan or Coupe has the 3.9

Wagon, and ute have 4.11

I think you can also use the diff centres out of 120Y's too. Could be cheaper and newer version...

I don't mean to split hairs here (John, no bald jokes) but what you really want are HIGHER gears. Smaller numbers are higher gears, bigger numbers are lower gears.
To go faster with the same revs needs a higher gear.
To go slower with the same revs needs a lower gear.

Yeah, I wanna know where to get a lower ratio for my ute too.

What comes standard in the utes? Is it 4.1?

And I think its spelled Uluru...maybe
