Eddie : It NEEDS to be finished in the next couple of months, so I can drive it to Adelaide for the Nationals in November.

DVLDAT: RNU12 Bluebirds..the ugly ones that sold as Pintaras in Australia. In Japan they came in FWD and 4WD CA18DET (east-west config). The HNU12 Bluebird had the SR20DET, it's the same as the KA24 Bluebirds (inc. SSS) in Australia.

Mikali: You will see that I used a hydraulic press to bend the 3mm plate. Then I Mig welded in the end pieces, just to be sure that it was strong enough. I double checked the towers with the engine hanging in the engine bay, before tacking them onto the crossmember. That way any differences in crossmember pressings can be taken up. I also have a jig that bolts onto the crossmember, and has the mount points from the CA18, works reliably. Check out the original link above. Some states won't have a hassle with you welding all of the sections together, without using a hydraulic press.

Hi Mat,
No, it's for my 1200 pickup. I have a DE for it but I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't just go the whole way and fit a DET. It's not really any more work to install but getting hold of one is proving tricky. I have another likely recipient but it a top secret project at the moment

The car in your pic, wasn't that sold as a Pulsar Exa or something. I saw a couple in Washington DC when I was there. We never got them but I think they were sold in Germany and I have an Aussie brochure for one. They are an N13 floorpan I believe. There was one for sale here a while ago, which I believe had come from Germany.

Here we got the CA18DE in a Nissan Sunny ZX which came in two forms, a hatchback (N13) and a coupe (B12). The N13 has a 1.8 and the coupe a 1.6. I have a couple of hatchback ones and they are pretty quick little cars, good for 130mph. The DE I have for my truck is from one of these.

Thx Chris ... very helpful info, but can you make me a kit and fly it in personally?

So, Eddie ... thinkin' of a CA for your Coupe?

Here in the states, we were at least fortunate to get a non-turbo, fwd version, the CA16DE & CA18DE in the Pulsar NX SE.

Yet another oddball Nissan automobile designed right here in Socal by NDI. I don't recall, but were these sold to the rest of the world?

Chris,
I just bought two replacement N13 radiators, one for my Nissan Sunny ZX and the other for my 510. They were brass and really nicely made but a bit pricey at

Hi Eddie,

It's a brass N13 Radiator. Quite rare aftermarket item. Due to a volvo backing into the front of it while parked, I'd like to get it recored to have it perfectly straight, budget constraints are starting to limit these luxuries. The factory N13 ones are plastic.

The only CA18DET I would recommend comes out of the 90-91 S13 Silvia. The earlier ones have the crossover intake, as does the Gazelles of a similar vintage. The Bluebird's 4WD CA18DET, has a FWD configuration, so it's not much help either.

These photos are 12 months old, taken during the mechanical/structural mods phase of the project. I've had the engine in, and out several times to make sure that I don't need to scratch paint when the times comes for final assembly.

ps. Are you still in Eastfield Lane? If not, please PM me your address.

Cheers,
Chris

Good god, I just realised it's over a year since I posted here! I couldn't access the site for months and just gave up but whaddayaknow ...it works again!

Anyway, to business. Chris, is that an N13 Pulsar radiator you are using there? Looks like one. What did your CA come out of? Here they come in S13's and have the intake that points across the top of the engine rather than forward like yours.

Yeah, I was a bit tired and cranky last night.

BTW, Maddat's kit is not perfect..not by a long way. But he's a commercial venture, so I'm not about to recommend changes to his kit. Nice bloke though. If you've ever seen his kit installed, it's designed for the "big intercooler" crowd, and means having a 90 degree dump pipe off the turbo. It's better than nothing though. And a real help for people who don't have fabrication/welding equipment available.
