You could put your 1200 on one of these:

Then turn the entire car over, like this:

That's how WALLY changes camshafts (just kidding).

Alas if only there was a magic device that held the lifters in place we could leave the motor in and just swap cams. Just as well as I always use new lifters.I have changed a cam in an A-series it is very easy but yes you do have to trun the motor upside down.

You should also have the lifters "radius ground" before putting in a new cam. The lifters have to turn as the cam lobes are ground at an angle to the axis of the cam and are not parrallel with cam axis. The taper causes the follower to spin and not wear in one spot.

You have to turn the engine upside down as previously mentioned to clear the cam for removal and installation.

It's worth a try you should be able to take the rocker gear off then the pushrods out then turn her over and push the cam followers down or up if you know what I mean and slip it out and then the new one in. The followers might be a bit hard to get to go down far enough so you might have to give the old cam a fast spin to knock them down. Its worth a try you have got nothing to lose.

'Guess I should have clarified - Short cut on changing it. I konw I'm going to have to pull the motor out and I'm hoping to leave the cylinder head on. I have a Schnieder cam that was never installed. I do have an option 1 and option 2 cam from Nissan but those don't do a whole lot for the engine life , not to mention I do not have an ultra close gearbox in the car.

Howdi Rallytwit,

Give Jeff from JTS Performance
((02 9623 8826)) a buzz, he can tell an easy way if there is one, the better thing is that he can tell you what cams work with what, worth the call....

Cheers

have a look at Tighe Cams website. They're in Brissy, but it will give you an idea of what you're after.
