the guy i talked to shared off the flywheel bolts because the gearbox seized. he still reckons the engine is mint. what do you think?

These bolts seem to shear as a by-product of harmonic vibration & flywheel bolts that are not as tight as they should be in this application. [Or just plain loose bolts] Our "A" series engines do not have a harmonic ballancer & i will be investigating the possibility of adapting something for mine.

One of our local blokes has sheared of the bolts a number of times in his B110 Coupe racer & the fitting of a severely modified Falcon [i think] ballancer seems to have overcome the problem.
He was able to re-use the crank too, so get the busted bolts out & have a good look. Your crank might just be OK, & thats gotta be good in the $$$ department.

damage to the crank, but the guy reckons its fine. damage a main bolt or crank mount? surely if theres enough power to share flywheel bolts off theres a chance of more damage.

If thats all thats wrong, then simply replace them, but i get the feeling that there is more to it than that. When you get to rebuilding it again, set the torque wrench to BFT.
Chris
P.S.
If the crank is damaged, it's my guess that the flywheel is crook too.

Killing an A series crank is a tough act if you keep oil in the sump.
What happened to your old crank?
