You got it Andrew, the good old days of Group B... gotta agree about the BDAs too. nothing quite like the sound of 9000rpm and twin Webbers

Yeah datsterr, definately the hardest coppers are in NSW...but they're not robber catchers there's no revenue in that!
People are getting away with drive-by shootings, but its ok because noone is doing 105 in a hundred zone, or putting big wheels on their car

Thanks for the links. They give me four more reasons to believe that the beauty of most flares, on most cars, is in their function, & not their form. For competition use, go for it, but for street use, see if you can think of another solution. I guess i never was an "in your face" kinda bloke when it comes to performance improvements. Sublety will get me in every time. I work on the principal that for street use, the component should fit the car. If it doesn't, i got the wrong component. Chris

btw decreasing track is just as illegal as increacing it.
to those of you who don't like flares, all I've got to say is... 240ZG MkI Escort MkII Escort FIAT 131 Abarth I could go on all day...

I believe that the track can be widened by 2", however many might not realise that the track measurement is taken from the CENTERLINE of the tyres & not the outside edges.
This means that if the wheel is widened an equal amount in each direction, the track does not change. However, this is not what happens in practice. The additional width is usually added to the outside of the wheel & this results in that nice dish that we love so much. If we widen our wheels outward by two inches each, & fit them to our car, we will increase the track by just 2" What happens with many tub jobs is that the rear axle is narrowed to get silly sized wheels under there, & in so doing, the wheel track is often reduced, not increased. Particularly in those cars that have the outside edge of the rim in about the same place as original. This is need to allow the bag of the humungous tyres to clear the bodywork. It looks stoopid. I was trying to upload a photo that illustrated this point, but still cant figure out how. Chris

Personally, I prefer that, if you must come out , then restyle the body work to suit and as long as it isn't too much and in keeping with the idenity of the car.
There aren't too many flares that really match the car they go on. MadTimo. Please keep your robber catchers on your side of the border, I reckon you have the hardest coppers in Aus ![]()

1200rc...I don't mean to start a bitch session here, but if you have widened the track of your car (by having the wheels sticking further out), then that copper didn't have to look far to find that third defect.
Its illegal (at least in nsw) to change the track of a car by more than a certain amount (I think its about 10mm or something). And they can measure it and defect you, I've seen it done. Damn coppers!!!! You can view topic.
