ive talked bout this before and i know that rotars u times by two,does anyone know whether u would have trouble finidng a engineer that would let u do a 12a bridgeport into 1200 ute? i think for a road car that would be a really cool engine to have despite the very poor fuel economy, ive heard that the new rx8 gets only twenty something mpg, my parents auto v8 commodore gets 32, so surely an old 12a carby rotar would be alot worse.

yeh just spoke to a technical adviser in the RTA and he said that for NSW the weight they have listed is 710kg for 1200s. this means 1775 limit for turbs and about 2130 for NA. i think they give u leeway a little with engineers though. but thats the right weight i hear so many different ones.

and of corse it only goes on standard weight no extras.

For a regular Passenger Vehicle, that's a big NO.

The weight is based on the RTA's weight for the vehicle, not the modified weight. Unless you are doing an ICV (Individually Constructed Vehicle). The RTA's weight for 1200s were determined when the car's were originally complianced back in the 70s.

Maybe this explains why there aren't many FJ20's in 1200s. I don't think they fit without a custom intake plenum. Plus they are 40kgs heavier than a CA18DET.

Queensland is different..they can use lead ballast to bring it up to legal.

i had same problem when lookn at putn sr20det in my 1000 ute but the weight has 2 be increased 2 allow Power 2 weight legal i was thinkn just stick a 13b turbo in less weight and tubbz and wheels will make up the weight....extra 250 - 300 kilos...

It will have to be made part of the car (ie. welded in) and you'll need about 300kg worth.

is it legal to put checkerplating in your car, run it over the pits (i.e. heavier) to accomodate possibly an fj20det into a 1200. or do they only go by the standard original weight? i reckon they do but im hoping theyre not coz i might go fj20det.
