I've been told that for Subaru, only two things are needed to convert awd powertrain to fwd:
1. Remove the awd fuse (?) 2. Remove the rear driveshaft Anyone know more details about this?

One thing to remember with this style set-up is that the factory never intended it to be RWD only. You would have to disassemble the trans and either find a way to remove the center diff, or weld it solid and hope it doesn't break.

Due to the substantial difference in width between the older and newer engines, it should not be considered a "given" that it will fit. However, it would be AWESOME And alot easier than putting it in a Datto. Personally, I like the Sunny SR20 idea. It forces you to convert it to a longitudinal mounting, but it is a bit more do-able. And it keeps it all-Nissan.

Hysterics does not become you & your accusations are the act of a man clutching at straws.
Your personal vendetta has become wearysome & your language objectionable. I decline to enter into further correspondence. Babble on & fabricate all you want.

The Subaru Brumby -- since it already has a Subaru flat-four -- should be a relatively straightforward swap. The Brumby was called the Subaru "Brat" in the US.
Fitting a Subaru powertrain in the back of a 1200 ute is certainly not a "bolt in" project, but if you are good at welding roll cages and such it wouldn't seem to be much different from other tube-frame based race car projects ... seems certainly do-able. Anyone remember the "Hurst Hairy Oldsmobile"? When the new 1966 fwd Olds Toronado debuted, Hurst had one built with a duplicate fwd unit fitted in the back seat area, in other words dual-engined. It would smoke all four tires down the quarter mile.

Definately a different idea but as said before the effort involved may not be worth the results. Another option if you want 4WD(again probably nearly as difficult) would be the GTiR running gear. SR20DET, quad throttle and AWD. That keeps it in the Datto/Nissan family but again would probably be a very complex conversion.
I have seen the WRX engine conversion in a fair few brumbies (with excellent results).

As a matter of redirect, it's a neat idea and would be pretty cool once finished, but the effort involved is likely way more than the result gained. If you're okay with that, then forge ahead. If not, then don't.
I don't think you could legitimately convince yourself or anyone else that this would be anything less than a monumental effort. But as stated, I'd wager there was a time when someone said it was crazy to stick an A14 into a 1200. You can view topic.
