I know most of you guys and girls here are more into your a-series motors but I've got myself a 1976 610 sss complete with L18B.
Does anyone outy there know what it would take to get this datto close to 200hp at the flywheel?

Answer=turbo. Getting a reliable 200 HP (at the wheels) from a non-turbo L Series is difficult. It'll cost you a bomb in regular maintenance. And don't expect to go anywhere in a hurry on a cold winter's morning.
This was the target power output for many 1980's 1600 rally cars, and it was expensive to build, and expensive to keep running. Get an FJ or SR Turbo. or at least be prepared to faint when presented with the estimated cost to achieve this power from an L18. Chris

if the l20 is healthy and u have an appropriate size turbo theres no reason why not, prob cost about 1000 to setup a turbo depending on turbo cost (blow through, suck through is cheaper)

A low budget build for an L18 would be
1. Fit 44mm inlet valves X 280ZX to a V912 black rocker S2 bluebird head. This will cost approx $600 - $800 plus head ($100? from U-Pull wreckers). This is where you will get your main power gain. 2. Freshen up an L18 botttom end (rings/bearings $300) or bore L18 to 87mm & fit VG30 flat tops to the bottom end. Have valve reliefs flycut. Cost about $1200 inc cheap pistons if you do lots of prep work and shop for prices. 3. Fit a billet wade 76 degree cam and degree wheel $270 4 Fit some 40 mm webers with chokes turned out to 37mm. ($550 - $600)Plus a slab to a mate?. This should give about 150hp at the flywheel (75 Rear wheel kw's) After these basic mods costs climb quickly. An alternative to the L18 rebuild bottom ned is to get a good high comp L20B bottom end instead of the L18 one ($100 at a U-Pull). There is a 1600/ L20B (Pooley brothers "Miser Racing" ) here in Vic with 90 RW Kw's. It just has a good head on pick a part $100 bottom ends.Good luck.

Use a toyota 2ltr 1ggze Supercharger on a low comp L20b black rocker top bluebird engine and tuned strongberg or big jag su. Extractors, electronic dizzy, 8psi - 10psi using different pulley size (I think standard is 6psi), elctronic switch a la maddo maxus and get it dyno tuned by ferals mate.
Supercharge is better for the road cheaper and late L20b bottom ends are bullet proof with the extra ribbings, SC gives on off power, torque from idle and drivability. You can view topic.
