#1 Very annoyed, in need of some help!!!!!
Tommy Posted on: 2004/1/22 8:00
hey all

I recently got extractors put onto my 1981 datsun 1200 ute. The shop noticed i had 3 leeking welch plugs and decided 2 replace them 4 me(that was all good), the only problem was they forgot 2 refil the coolant!!!!. My temperature gauge is a bit dodgy and didnt indicate how hot the engine actually was. So u guessed it i warped the head. Ever since that i have had heaps and heaps of trouble with the engine temperature!!!!! I have tried everything. New thermostat, shaved the head down, just got the radiator completly redone and cleaned and flushed. What else can i do or do i need 2 get a new engine?????. Im wasting my money trying everything to fix it, when i had many many plans and mods 4 my engine
plus anybody that lives in ACT or queanbeyan, heres a tip avoid Langs auto in queanbeyan!!. They forgot 2 add the coolant which has caused me all this trouble!!!!

Dude that is screwed! Did they acknowledge that they didnt put any coolent in? if so, they Fu#*ed it and they should pay whatever it costs to get it back to how it was when you dropped it off. End of story- you shouldnt have to pay to fix up their stupid mistakes

Well first of all you should have taken it back and told them to fix it as it had become their responsibility, but once you work on it yourself thats the end of that idea. If these clowns forgot to refill the radiator then it wouldn't supprise me if the fitted the extractors wrong, is the exhaust blocked? how is the water pump? is there bubbling in the radiator, is your temperature gauge working properly?

nah the exhaust isnt blocked, i got a new one put on at the same time. The temp gauge works fine now as it was fixed the next day, but i know 4 sure that the engine is runnin way hotter than before because the gauge only stopped working several days before this all happened. Could it be the extractors making the engine hotter by any chance??????. They done a bloody poor job on fitting the extractors 2. I took it back 2 them and got the head shaved down but its still bloody hot so me and ma dad are goin back 2morrow 2 pay them just a little visit!!!!!! Is there like a law if a company stuffs something of yours then legally they have to fix it???????. How do i talk 2 about this

I am not sure about aus, but in new zealand we have the consumers guarantees act which gives you quite a bit of protection. there should be some mediator in state for you, ask at a law office. in some cases if agreed to you can go elsewhere to get fixed but make sure you follow the correct path of events otherwise you will forfeit your rights. most importantly is to remain calm and try to talk through the situation that you are in, otherwise you wont get anywhere through mediation

another good idea is to get a second opinion from a qualified mechanic or specialist, you might find some radiator specialists will give you a free system check and tell you whats wrong.

Definately give consumer affairs a call. They are located next to the motor registry in Dickson.

They are really helpful. Its a long story but I dealt with them about two years ago and the result was excellent, they really stick up for the consumer.

Save yourself months of stuffing around, (with a faulty car) and pay a couple of hundred for a new engine...and don't go back to this place. Recommend to friends to not go there either.

The effort of dragging these lazy bastards over the coals isn't worth the trouble in my opinion.

Depends on how broke you are. It also depends on how much time you have to chase it up.

scottyb obviously has a different experience, so maybe calling consumer affairs isn't a bad idea. That'll cost you less than a dollar.

I agree tommy- give consumer affairs a call and see what they have to say about the matter. They can probably give you some advice on what to do next...
