#1 adjustments on panhard rod

Probably a stupid question but i have heard conficting stories on how to adjust these....

can it be adjusted with out lifting the car on a hoist / jack? (in other words with the car just sitting on the ground).
or
do i need to have the weigth off the diff in order to make some adjustments???

any help plz

A panhard rod on a datto?? Mine doesent have one. did you have one put on aftermarket?

yeh it has a 5 link rear in it.
i played around with it yesterday and it has made a bit of a difference, the inside of the rear left tyre rubs at times the inner guard (mainly when i corner to right).

I think i will have to raise the rear end a touch , but it sits nice at the moment!

It's also a good idea to check all the bushes or rosejoints if your 5 link has been built using them. Badly worn bushes or slightly bent or poorly made links can cause the problem you have described in your post.

Also have a good look to check the panhard rod isn't bent. Normally results from sideways fun smacking gutters etc...

if it's been made with a righthand thread rosejoint on one end and a lefthand thread rj on the other, you just need to loosen both locknuts and adust away!!

You shouldnt need to take the weight of the car off the diff to adjust..

all of the bushes and the other components are in great condition, no problems there.

I did adjust it and was not able to see any "noticable" movement or repositioning of the diff. i am reluctant to go too far causing the rod to "fall out"?
I might try another inch or so and see if that makes the tyre clear the wheel arch.

the problem might the arc of the panhard rod.
a panhard rod will move the diff housing sideways as it travels up & down.this could be why you're getting tyre rub.the only way to minimise the movement is to get the panhard rod in the middle of it's arc when the car is at it's normal ride height.then the diff will only move a small amount,either up or down.a watts linkage,which is a z or s shape,depending on how it's fitted,doesn't do this,but is much more complicated & expensive to make.
