#1 What Horsepower from a modded A12????
Frodaddy Posted on: 2004/6/21 8:52
What horsepower can be achieved from an A12 with a Weber 32/36 and extractors with a 2" exhaust and a straight thru muffler? Has anyone dynoed their A12 with these basic modifications?

completely stock A12 w/ single 42mm weber, 2" exhaust extracted, 165/14 wheels.

latest dyno she came in at..

torque: 179Nm, 132lb/ft
power: 62KW/83HP @ 137km @ 5800rpm
air/fuel ratio: 12.6(hi octane from shell)
oil temp: 28 deg C
air-in-take temp: 24 deg C
vacuum reading: -18 inch mercury

AND

torque: 175Nm, 125lb/ft
power: 68KW/91HP @ 158km @ 6630rpm
air/fuel ratio: 12.6(hi octane from shell)
oil temp: 28 deg C
air-in-take temp: 24 deg C
vacuum reading: -19 inch mercury

ive dyno'd the little beast twice since i got it back nov 03 and will again when the A15 goes in. hope the jets dont need replacing in the weber changing from A12-A15.. ??

prior to getting the car for myself it got a full service (10 yr or so one) and was dyno'd with the 12" wheels on. i unfortunantly didnt get any stats on that dyno tune but stocko Everything it was quite nice(and slippery). it was pretty average accelleration once i put the 14"s on but it stuck to the road very well.

put in 2" system w/ 4-2-1 extractors (which will hopefully fit by the A15 ok) and put on a single 42mm DCOE weber and had it redyno'd.

i have more stats on the weber dyno (from above) if any1 wants them, only hard-copy's of graphs though. its still prettyy weak but its enuff for this little 1200. i needed the weber to be rejetted thats why i had this dynotune done. they guy who tuned it didnt really do it as id hoped for my intended daily street use - his tests started with the engine > 2000 rpm - where a weber is able to take off from.. in low revs eg > 500rpm its pretty bad but doesnt usually stop unless the engine is dead cold. starting off from lites etc has to be done at more than a 1500rpm minimum.

su's might be better for daily use but it is still a helluva lot of fun driving it everyday.

Whats the highest rpm that an a12 has achieved?
With what mods?

highest rpm?
hmmm... foot too the floor, no mods. paddock basher, not even the speedo worked, and it didn't have a tacho, so i wouldn't have a clue what rpm that was. went for ages but (this was playing car soccer. awesome fun). you'd be hard pressed to find a tougher motor than the a12...

datsun = never say die

What mods would be best for an A12 SU draw throughTurbo and how much power/torque would it be capable of making and still be drivable enough everyday?
I'm considering doing it and just do some homework.

evilsim, ur horsepower rating for the a12 is pretty poor considering the a12 came stock with 69 hp ???? is this calculated at the engine or something im not completely sure, someone prove me wrong.

nah would be at the wheels, its off a dyno, would assume car dyno not engine dyno... why would you engine dyno an a series motor unless for race use.

Those torque figures are about 50% over what you would expect from a mildly modified A12. Normaly about 80 ft/lb would be good.

The HP is high yet believable, but the torque? The dyno guy must have miscalculated the gear ratios or something. That's a lot of torque.

what sort of power/torque figures would you see on a turbo A12?

just a rebuilt std engine with HE pistons and good rings/bearings on about 10psi?
