Weber 32/36 question

Posted on: 2004/8/2 10:08
My car has been running really bad on hills.(nose up) The revs just keep dropping until it stalls. (Stalls because its running richer and richer)
I parked it on a hill today with the air cleaner off and i could see a fair bit of fuel just dripping down onto the butterflies. Then when it stopped i could still hear fuel filling the float chamber. Also fuel then began to leak out onto the leaver next to the accelerator pump. I'm going to look at it properly tommorow but has anyone got an idea of whats wrong. Thanks

Sounds to me like your needle and seat are sticking open. easy to fix its where the fuel goes into the carby. Pull it apart and see whats wrong, spring may have broken and its fallen apart or something. To get to it you need to pull the top of the carby. There not very dear if you have to replace it.

1 rebuild kit = $30
1 hour of your life = missing TV parking your car and coming out in 10 minutes wondering what that smell is only to find your beloved datsun on fire and destroying half your garden and house.... priceless, dude buy a re-kit and get it in there reset your float and feel the difference no-one wants to see your car burn down or more your house. be safer than sorry.

When I put my Weber on the first time I had the exact problem... Adjusting the float level fixed it, but I'm also inclined to agree with the idea of putting a kit through it and getting everything Mickey Mouse while you are at it. Hope this helps...

Turned out to be the float level was way too high ie. 3/4 of the way up. Lowered it and away she went.
Why put a kit through a already perfect carby?

Being as you have had fuel pouring out from the top cover, the top cover gasket is probably a little suspect now. Also, although it is unlikely, the needle and seat may be a little damaged... It is very unlikely, but I like to play safe with these sorts of things so it's just an idea...

It wasn't leaking from the top gasket and the needle and seat is fine. Fuel was siphening out into the throats and near the accelerator pump.

Still something's a bit iffy seeing as you're now running out of gas at higher revs - as per your other post. So it may not be as perfect as you are hoping.
