#1 Which brake setup is best?
lump_a_charcoal Posted on: 2000/11/1 12:03
I have a 1200 ute 83' and it has an a15. which is the easiest and best brake swap? is the booster necessary, and what steering mods
need to be done?
Also, do i need to get my car engineered with the bigger motor? i'm in NSW by the way.
thanks, Linc.

Well how far do u want to go for the brakes?? Do u want a cheap easy upgrade or the best brakes out there??

As for the A15, yes it will have to be engineered. If u had an A14 it wouldnt have to be. But i would wait until u have set up your brakes and get it
all engineered at once....

Hi Linc,

I did a stanza brake upgrade on my coupe. It's easy, just cut two coils off the springs or use the 1200 springs as they are. U will need the ball joints, castor rods, and steering arms.
shorten the caster rods or get 120Y ones late model as per the previous messages. I found it improved cornering and had much better braking potential (ie you had to use more force, but
better braking). If you fit a booster it will be much better still.

I have heard that some people simply fit a booster to the 1200 master cylinder and this is sufficient, but I haven't tried.

Unfortunately, using the a15 you will need to get an engineer to look over it and then pay a vast sum of money, say $450.00. Any engine over 15% power increase on original specs needs
an engineer's certificate.
check with RTA anyway.

Justin,

U said u could use late model 120y castor rods or shorten the stanza ones. Why, if u are using the 1200 lower controls?? Or did u forget to type that bit?? If u are using stanza
lower controls which did u use so i can figure out wot i wanna do. I either going to get stanza castors rods machined real soon or just goto a wrecker and get these late model
120y ones. Cheers

Hi Davo

Yes I forgot to mention the stanza lower control arms! sorry. I would get the stanza castor rods modified as they are much stronger. either shorten them to the 1200 length
or machine more thread on the end so you can adjust the castor. doesn't cost very much. I just shortened mine, and they work fine.
